(Diospyros virginiana)

Seedlings grown from trees growing in zones ranging from 6a-5b selected for medium to large fruits and great flavor. We gather from large fruiting wild trees as well as selected varieties. Diospyros translates to “Fruit of the Gods”. Once ripe, they are one of the tastiest fruits we know of with flavors ranging from caramel, pumpkin, date, and tangerine. They can be used in breads, cakes, cookies, fruit leathers, etc. American persimmons are more calorie dense, and much more nutrient dense than the Asian persimmon having up to 9x the vitamin c, and 4x the calcium. Persimmons flower late, protecting them from Spring frosts. American Persimmon seedlings can be male or female, so we recommend planting at least 5. American Persimmons have black roots. They are native to eastern North America.

Much of the genetic selecting in trees I gather from was done by indigenous peoples of the Midwest and I am very thankful for them and their work.

American persimmons are one of the most nutrient dense fruits in North America. They contain 19 out of the 20 essential amino acids. They are also high in vitamin C, zinc and beta carotene. They also contain 30% sugar.

Hardy to zone 5a, but can be experimental in 4b.
